Work the mousse through your hair in sections, focusing on the roots. Lift sections of hair away from your scalp as you apply, making sure the product reaches the base. Don’t just smooth it over the surface—get underneath and distribute it where you need the lift.
Once the product is in, don’t start drying immediately. Use clips to section your hair and pin the roots up and away from your head. The Blow-Dry Technique

Skipping the cool shot on your dryer is another issue. Heat opens the hair cuticle and makes it pliable; cool air closes it and locks the shape. If you don’t cool each section before releasing it, the style won’t hold.
And finally, applying mousse to soaking wet hair dilutes it too much. You want damp hair—moist enough that the product spreads easily, but not so wet that it drips and loses concentration.
